There is always have someone will make you blush and feel nervous. Even it’s just via a phone call. Even you didn’t meet each other for a long time.

When you realize your parents were once just people.
My mom was once just Connie.
She didn’t answer to mom or even think about being mom.
I can still remember the moment I discovered my mom was just a person.
I was probably 10 and looking through old photo albums when I came across one of my mother in high waisted, wide legged jeans, a tight tank top, braids in her hair.
She was standing in front of this car, with a cigarette in one hand and flipping the camera off with the other. Her nails were red.
She was 15. She was Connie.
Eleven years before I came around, she was just a person.
My mom doesn’t smoke, I’ve never seen her flip anyone off, I’ve never seen her hair braided or wearing high waisted, wide leg jeans.
She had life before my existence.
I think there’s a moment when we all realize our parents are just people.
They’re not the superheroes we often like to think they are and they had lives before they were mom and dad.
Those lives probably made them into who they were the day you learned they were just a person, like anyone else.
I hope one day my children find a picture of me and think, “Wow… mom was just a person once.”
It makes us all more real.
